February 3, 2004: Failed :(
I failed the one hour glucose test and have to get the three hour one done. Bummer. I told my mom, and she said she had gestational diabetes when she was pregnant with me.
January 30, 2004: Yucky orange drink
I took the glucose test today...yuck! I went in the morning, with an empty stomach. Then I swigged the super-sweet orange carbonated drink and sat for an hour until they took the blood sample. You know that feeling when you eat too much candy on an empty stomach? Yes, that yucky woozy feeling. That was not pleasant. We should get the results next week.
January 28, 2004: Bare belly
Bare belly photos are now in the pregnancy photo gallery. The baby has been very active and kicking a lot these days. You can actually feel it from outside of my belly now.
January 21, 2004: Zander and his brother
Zander fell asleep on my belly today, and Doug took some photos of us together. The beginning of the pregnancy photo gallery.
January 15, 2004: Right on target
We had our 24 week appointment today. We listened to the heartbeat, and today I am measuring right on target: 24 weeks at 24 weeks.
They gave me lab paperwork for the dreaded glucose test (for gestational diabetes) with instructions to do it after 26 weeks. Not really looking forward to that. I'm sure I will pass it, as I am a sugar fiend, but the orange drink is horrible to have on an empty stomach. YUCK.
I have a new craving: McDonald's Big Macs, which I could not stand the sight of after around 10 weeks.
We've moved the office upstairs, and the boys' room into where the library was. We're still in the midst of moving the library shelves downstairs, but it is progressing nicely.
January 5, 2004: Happy New Year!
I am glad the holidays are over and a new year has begun! We had a great Christmas with Doug's family, and a nice relaxing New Year's Eve at home.
I'm feeling a lot of movement from the baby...almost enough to feel from outside, but not quite. On Christmas morning and New Year's morning, we listened to the heartbeat.
I'm feeling really good...for my birthday and Christmas, Doug got me some gift certificates to the salon. I treated myself to a prenatal massage, facial and pedicure. It was WONDERFUL! The 2nd trimester is great...not too big, not too queasy. I am eating more and a bigger variety of foods than the first trimester, so that's good.
Apparently the nesting instinct has kicked in, and I am on a purge and clean rampage. We're also getting ready to move stuff around so that the boys can have the largest room upstairs as their bedroom, and we're moving the office back upstairs so I can be near them. Downstairs will be the library/guest room.
December 18, 2003: It's a...
...BOY!!!
It's been a while since my last update. We had a great Thanksgiving, and then a wonderful trip to NJ for my Dad's 60th birthday party. Yesterday was my 35th birthday. We had our friends over to help decorate the Christmas tree and just hang out. It was a nice relaxing evening.
We had our ultrasound today, and found out that we are having another boy! He was facing my back during the ultrasound, and even gave a little kick. The baby's heart has 4 chambers. The brain looks normal. The spine is well-formed (no spina bifida). The mouth and lips are well formed (no cleft lip). There was fluid in his belly, so we know that the stomach is okay and his esophagus works. We saw both arms and both legs. Everything looks great. I also got the results from my AFP test...things came back normal.
They also measured the baby and looks like I could be having another big guy...he's already in the 75th percentile. The heartbeat was at 155 bpm. We'll be doing another ultrasound when I'm 37 weeks to check his size. If he is anywhere near as big as Zander, we'll be scheduling a c-section for sure!
November 24, 2003: Listen to the heartbeat!
Tonight we recorded the baby's heartbeat. I found it right away, and we recorded the first take. Take a listen to it.
I'm still getting over my cold...it's more an annoyance than anything else. I'm looking forward to Thanksgiving this week!
November 21, 2003: Appointment and AFP Screen...
We had an appointment with Dr. Baer today. We listened to the heartbeat, and he checked my fundal height. I'm measuring at 18 weeks, even though I'm only 16 weeks. Another big baby??? It's too early to say for sure.
Our next appointment will be the Level II ultrasound where we check on the baby's development - heart, lungs, spine, brain, etc. And we can find out if we're having a boy or a girl if the baby cooperates.
I went to the lab today so they could take a blood sample for the AFP screening. I'm not sure if we'll get any results by Thanksgiving.
November 19, 2003: Caught a cold...
Well, it had to happen. Zander got a cold. Doug caught it from him, and now I've got it. :(
November 15, 2003: Another week gone by...
Fifteen weeks and a day. I listened to the heartbeat this morning, and it was at 163 bpm. I have been hungrier lately, waking up in the wee hours of the morning hungry. I try to just eat an apple or some yogurt and get back to sleep.
I'm still having headaches...they feel like mini-migraines. Not sure if it's residual effects from the big migraine I had a couple of weeks ago.
So, they say with subsequent pregnancies, your belly pops out sooner...it's so true. I think I look like I did at 6 months last time! I am already wearing maternity clothes because my regular clothes (pants!) aren't fitting. With Zander, I couldn't wait to get into maternity clothes, and this time I'm annoyed that I have to wear them so soon. C'est la Vie...
November 7, 2003: Second Trimester!
Fourteen weeks today! Woo hoo! I actually feel much better after the sinus infection and the migraine. I'm definitely sleeping better since I'm not congested. I actually had enough energy this morning to fix a french toast and bacon breakfast for Zander and me.
