Big Baby!
July 19, 2002 - 24 weeks 6 days

Things are just moving along now. We had a nice, uneventful appointment this week. Dr. Baer answered all our questions, and we listened to the heartbeat. So far I've gained 18 pounds. For the entire pregnancy, I should try to gain between 25-35 pounds. During this part of the pregnancy, I should start gaining about a pound a week!

My next lab test is the glucose tolerance test, which screens for gestational diabetes. Basically, they give you this super sugary drink and then test your blood sugar levels one hour after drinking it to make sure your body is processing sugar properly. I'm hoping I'll be okay since I eat a lot of sugar/carbohydrates right now and it doesn't seem to affect me adversely. I've heard that the drink tastes awful and is often served room temperature...YUCK! I'll take that test next week.

Height of Fundus Chart

At every appointment, the doctor checks the height of my fundus. The fundus is the top of the uterus. Currently, I am measuring right at 28 weeks...but I am only going to be 25 weeks tomorrow. So, I'm measuring about 3 weeks bigger than I actually am!

As I have mentioned before, Scott babies are notoriously big (our nephew Joshua was 10 lb 2 oz at birth!), so I wasn't too surprised.

We have our next appointment scheduled for August 16, 2002, and, if I continue to measure big, we're going to get another ultrasound to get a more accurate size measurement.
